Aysha Akhtar, MD, MPH
Dr. Aysha Akhtar is a double Board-certified neurologist and preventive medicine/public health specialist whose work points out that there is a mutual benefit to both humans and animals when animal interests are protected. In her book, Animals and Public Health, and in her TED Talk, Dr. Akhtar explains why harming animals is not necessary for humans to thrive or progress by presenting scientific evidence that demonstrates the inter-dependence of human and animal health. She is a regular blogger for the Huffington Post, and because Dr. Akhtar works for the U.S. government she also provides the disclaimer that the opinions expressed this interview are hers, and do not represent the official position of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the U.S. government.
